Vice President, Client Service | Family Office, San Francisco

Our client is a San Francisco Bay Area private investment firm that serves a significant multi-generational family by providing comprehensive wealth management and investment services. The firm invests for the long term, directly through teams of professionals it sponsors as well as through other external Managers, seeking opportunities where others cannot and moving quickly to capitalize on them. Its success as an investor has been based upon the values of integrity, fair dealing, teamwork, innovation and sound judgment. It considers itself as a “business investor” due to its operating orientation and its commitment to partnership with its Managers and portfolio companies to create value over the medium to long term. In addition to its role as an investment manager, the firm serves as the full-service family office.

POSITION SUMMARY

The firm seeks to recruit a Client Services Vice President to serve as a Client Services Vice President and support for the Client Services Director for the family within a best-in-class client service organization. The firm has an established client service organization and seeks to continue the expansion of this function for the family at the direction of and in partnership with the recently appointed Managing Director of Client Services.

The firm seeks an individual with wealth management skills, client relations expertise, and experience working with clients with complex investment strategies and entity structures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Client Services Vice President’s role is to:

  • Participate in daily often high-volume client interaction requiring responsiveness and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Work with the Client Services and Financial & Operations teams to prepare and deliver in-depth reports, analysis, and discussions on personal cash management, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Work with the Director to foster extensive client contact, and provide hands-on assistance with significant financial transactions (e.g., real estate)
  • Communicate investment results and implications for clients through client conversations and participation in review of client reporting
  • Partner with Client Services Accounting to provide the client with cash management
  • Partner with the Director to manage the clients’ property and casualty insurance, foundation administration and charitable donations
  • Serve as a functional generalist in a non-investment capacity
  • Partner across the Family Office and with outside service providers to facilitate clients’ tax work, accounting, bill pay, household employee management, political contributions, privacy management, personal and cyber security,

The Client Services Vice President will achieve success in the role by:

  • Developing a deep understanding of the clients’ investments, personal assets, legal entities and client relationships
  • In partnership with the Director, developing a thorough understanding of each client’s information needs, cash management considerations, communication and reporting preferences, and other needs to provide exceptional client service
  • Working with clients to facilitate their day-to-day bill pay, cash management, vendor management, and household employee management, and optimizing this process and workflow across the clients and Family Office employees
  • Working closely with the Managing Director of Client Services, Client Services Director and other internal teams to develop, maintain and enhance cash flow models and forecasts, and other financial analyses
  • Working closely with third parties who serve the clients (e.g., bankers, attorneys, trustees)
  • Utilizing software, CRM tools, and other tools to effectively document and manage sensitive and confidential client information
  • Assisting clients in managing personal real estate portfolios, by interacting with third party service vendors, club managers, estate managers and others
  • Driving continuous improvement to ensure is the firm is the best-in-class private client service organization
  • Demonstrating the ability to work on various projects simultaneously and at a high level of excellence, being a self-starter able to work under explicit direction or independently

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Strong academic credentials that include a bachelor’s degree and, ideally, an advanced degree or certification (i.e., MBA, CPA, CFA, CFP, or JD)
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience as a client/relationship manager or family office client services team member
  • Strong understanding of the transaction side of complex family office operations. Some knowledge of investments ideally coupled with financial planning and or tax acumen
