Controller (Tax Focus)| Quant Hedge Fund/Fintech Start-Up

Our client, is a growing quant fund in the marketplace lending space. They conduct independent underwriting of consumer loans originated by banks, credit cards companies and other lenders. They utilize this information to manage institutional capital and advise loan securitizations.

At the investment fund level:

●     Help to create accounting policies and processes for greater process transparency and resilience

●     Assist with establishing adequate and effective internal performance reporting and controls, data collection and analysis on risk exposure reporting with various internal business units regarding fund products

●     Manage year-end tax planning, check tax allocations and perform tax research, ensured timely and accurate tax reporting and distribution of K-1s and tax returns to investors and lenders

●     Review annual financial statements, footnotes, perform impairment analyses, and debts analyses

●     Oversee and liaise with fund administrator and custodian, including review and reconciliation of monthly NAV package, investor capital account reporting, trade processing and expenses processing

●     Assist with due diligence and investor relation activities, including responding to audit confirm, producing bespoke client reports, and providing financial data to Investor Service team in marketing materials production

●     Review funds’ regulatory compliance maintenance including FATCA, CRS, Form PF, and CFTC

●     Financial forecasting

●     Ensure a robust control environment exists both at the fund service providers and internally to ensure risk of error is mitigated

●     Field custom reporting requests and projects for investors and/or business-specific needs and develop reporting to deliver back to clients/stakeholders

●     Prepare funding memos for investment purchase, fund expense payment, etc

At the management company level:

●     Prepare partner allocations and capital account

●     Reporting on revenue calculations

●     Assist with planning / evaluating technology enhancements

●     Coordinate expense processing internally, with vendors and external administrators

●     Cash flow modeling and forecasting and budgeting

●     Coordinate with due diligence on service providers for onboarding and annual review

●     Enhancement of controls infrastructure

●     Working with CFO and CIO to create the most tax-efficient fund structure

REQUIREMENTS:  

·       A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance from a well knows institution (CPA is preferred but not required)
·       5 plus years of relevant experience with public & private accounting, ideally from family office, small investment manager, hedge fund or VC fund

·       Loan or credit background ideal
·       Experience in Tax a plus
·       Strong knowledge of and hands-on experience with fund level accounting
·       Unquestionable integrity and work ethic
·       Must be able to provide an entrepreneurial hands-on approach to enhancing finance operations. This is a small office, so this person must be comfortable and excited to wear many different hats and work on multiple projects simultaneously
